Wixi is your Online Media Center. You can upload any kind of media - photos, videos and music to your Wixi - then access them from anywhere and play them everywhere. You might ask yourself how you can simply upload your MP4 videos taken with your camera or cellphone, and then play them from any web browser while on your computer desktop. Do you require a video player to do so?
In this post, I am going to tell you a little bit more about the mechanics behind Wixi. To make it simple, let’s take the example of a video file, though it works roughly the same way with pictures and music. When you upload a video file to Wixi, our media conversion platform will process it and convert it into a high quality streamable file that can be played by the Wixi Universal Flash Player on your Web Browser.
As Wixi wants to focus onto the entertainment experience, and not on the network and server technology to accomplish fast video conversion for all our users, we have chosen not to handle this media conversion platform ourselves. Instead, we partnered with an expert firm with solid experience in this field, having designed the architecture of sites like DailyMotion (the first YouTube-like site in Europe). By working with them, we are sure the Wixi technical platform will be in good hands!
Then, once your video file is converted, you can play it and make mixed playlists featuring musics, photos and videos with the Wixi Universal Flash Player.
